Started at the beginning of 2020, Left Behind is a book of photography and accompanying poems. Originally meant to be a collaboration between her and her nephew, Barbara Murphy decided to pursue the project to honor him after he committed suicide. Barbara enlisted my help to turn her manuscript and chosen photos into a book. I am responsible for the page layouts, typography choices and treatments, cover design, and provided consultation on all visible aspects of it. Above all else, my job is to help convey the somber, yet hopeful, message of Left Behind to its readers through the book's appearance and experience.
We started the book with just a group of poems Barbara wrote corresponding to photos that her nephew, Joe, had taken.
